The cognitive pattern produced when humans subordinate their intelligence to the logic, speed, and literalness of machine systems. This results in processing information in linear, binary, and metric-dependent ways that eliminate the non-literal, non-linear, and relational data that sapient judgment requires. In HDI, machine-mode thinking is the primary target of the framework’s pedagogy: not because machines are the problem, but because the human capacity to think otherwise is being systematically displaced by disuse.
